The Inpatient Staff Registered Nurse is assigned to the Operative Care Line on the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). The position requires an incumbent who possesses good organizational skills, critical thinking skills, as well as autonomy and the ability to multitask which enables the safe delivery of nursing care on a post-surgical unit. The position requires the nurse to have a patient-centered approach to care and the ability to establish effective communication. The RN will practice in accordance with the scope of practice of the Board of Nurse Examiners and the Nurse Practice Act; the rules and regulations; policies; procedures; and guidelines of MEDVAMC, VHA directives, Joint Commission and other certifying and surveying agencies, professional organization standards, practice within the nine dimensions outlined in the Nurse Qualification Standards and which are specific to the Grade and Level, and practice patient safety according to the National Patient Safety Goals. The RN will interact and collaborate with the others various health care disciplines in the MEDVAMC, and will work together to solve problems affecting all stakeholders. Duties include but are not limited to: Provides initial and ongoing assessments for an assigned group of patients. Identifies problems and uses sound judgment to prioritize patient care needs; Recognizes deviations from baseline assessments and initiates corrective actions; Coordinates patient care through procedures and other care needs (physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, walking program). Deliver nursing care safely and timely Provides ongoing patient education regarding medication regime and align the patient with the proper resources for continued care Able to identify when a patient's condition is deteriorating; Documenting patient care notes in electronic medical record; Performing duties related to the function of the position as necessary, etc. .REUSABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT: Demonstrates compliance with all policies regarding Infection Control practices pertaining to pre-cleaning and processing RMEs.
