The Asheville VAMC is actively seeking a well-qualified General Surgeon with strong leadership and interpersonal skills to serve as a Staff Surgeon at the Asheville VAMC. Recruitment Incentives may be available for highly qualified applicants. Duties include, but not limited to: Treatment of disease in areas of the body; Alimentary tract; Abdomen and its contents; Extremities; Chest and it contents; skin, and soft tissue; Head and neck, including trauma, vascular, endocrine, congenital and oncologic disorders -particularly tumors of the skin, salivary glands, thyroid, parathyroid. Surgical oncology, including coordinated multimodality management of the cancer patient by screening, surveillance, surgical adjunctive therapy, rehabilitation, and follow-up. Decide whether surgery is warranted, based on the patient's choices, records, test, condition and examinations. Determine the type of surgery that is needed, and other providers who will be required to perform the procedure. Perform procedures in accordance with facility policies. Maintain continuing education to keep current with medical knowledge and surgical techniques. Participate in the teaching of providers, patients, residents and students. Participate in committees. Either facility or organizational wide. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 - 1530, with on call duty. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 10 paid Federal holidays per year. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement). Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory. CME: Possible $1,000 per year stipend + possible 1 week paid authorized absence to attend. Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided. Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
