| Summary
The Lactation Consultant / LC is a Registered Nurse who, using critical thinking skills, directs and evaluates patient care activities occurring within her/his assigned area of demonstrated clinical expertise. The Lactation Consultant / LC must have the ability to lead and motivate professional and ancillary staff to develop their breastfeeding practice, knowledge and skill base, while coordinating with other members of the health care team to ensure quality patient care. The Lactation Consultant / LC will support plans, programs and schedules as directed by the lead lactation consultant
Qualifications:
Position Requirements/Qualifications: (including required licensure/certifications, education and job knowledge / experience)
Education
Minimum: Associates Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program
Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Nursing
Experience
- 3-5 years clinical experience
- Must have advance knowledge of perinatal nursing practices, anatomy and physiology, pregnancy, labor, birth, lactation, infant care and clinical breastfeeding issues
- Able to demonstrate exceptional communication, collaboration, teamwork and flexibility
- Serves as role model for delivery of excellent patient care and customer service
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Current Certification by International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC)
- Current Florida RN License
- American Heart Association: BLS; NRP
