This position is located at the newly established Terre Haute VA Clinic. Incumbent is responsible for assisting with oversight of rehabilitation services at the Terre Haute Clinic through developing and implementing the overall physical therapy program in coordination with the complex 1A facility. Will also develop relationships with the PACT teamlet at the Clinic to develop a model of medicine that includes Physical Therapy in all patient care decisions. Serves as a consultant for other health care providers regarding the delivery of outpatient care in physical therapy in the VA clinic. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of contemporary physical therapy across multiple areas of practice and demonstrates the ability to apply this advanced knowledge to provide education and guidance to referring physicians. Monitors and evaluates clinically appropriate treatment program with great autonomy. Functions as member on a multidisciplinary team, representing the Physical Therapy Section by communicating directly with team members such as patient's primary care physician, nursing personnel, social worker, dietitian, psychologist, and other disciplines involved with the patient's care. Advises, teaches, and mentors VA clinic staff regarding care of patients needs and progress as it relates to his/her specialization. Performs physical therapy evaluation and treatment with outpatients and employees, male and female, ages ranging from adult to geriatric, having a variety of disabilities. Employs higher level motivational techniques to enlist patient participation and utilizes advanced clinical evaluative and rehabilitation techniques. Evaluates patient's condition(s) upon appropriate referral to physical therapy to determine treatment plan. Performs and interprets results of tests and measurements for use in preparing for modification and/or evaluation of patient treatment, and adjusts the treatment based on changes in patient's condition. Evaluates patient's needs with respect to prescribed braces, orthotics, and selects appropriate appliances, determines which suits the patient best, and recommends necessary modifications to provide for proper fit. Provides continuing education in the form of in-services and clinical training programs to primary care staff on subject matter of physical therapy on an as needed basis. Is responsible for reporting any unusual difficulties involving the treatment of patients of outpatients or related to his area of specialization directly to the Physical Therapy Supervisor. Receives patient referrals from appropriate source and schedules patients for evaluation and treatment in a timely fashion. Responds to patients, families, visitors and co-workers request for assistance in a prompt, and friendly manner. Documents performance of treatment and achievement of treatment goals assuring a high level of productivity and cost-effective treatments are provided.
