In compliance with applicable New York and New Jersey State regulatory authorities, COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine) is mandatory for all MSK employees, contingent workers, and volunteers. Exceptions are permitted for those employees who request and receive an approved medical or fully remote exemption.
*Staff working at a MSK New Jersey location must be up to date with COVID-19 vaccination, which includes having completed the primary COVID-19 vaccination series and booster once eligible as mandated by New Jersey State. All New Jersey staff not yet eligible for a booster must receive a booster within 3 weeks of becoming eligible as a condition of continued employment at MSK.
Note: Individuals are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster five months after receiving the second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or two months after the J&J vaccine.
Job Description
Interested in taking the next steps in your Payroll career? We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team.
In this role, you will primarily work with Payroll Business Analysts in Workday and MSK Time filling in as backup when needed and working alongside Payroll Managers as support during audits and special projects.
You will:
- Collaborate with the Tax team, reviewing daily tax reports generated in Workday, reviewing tax payments for 40+ states and transmitted to ADP, reconciling tax liabilities and payments.
- Assist MSK's telecommuter population with tax forms and questions.
- Work with Operations Team as needed for processes such as Vacation Payouts, loads and EIBs, Workday and MSK Time Retro Processing.
- Identify and calculate overpayments. Communicate with departments and employees to recover overpayments.
- Perform daily audits of data entered by employees and payroll staff.
- Analyze Payroll/Finance Systems functionality to resolve issues reported by employees' Department.
- Collaborate with peers in other departments (Benefits, Compensation, HRIS, Finance) to anticipate testing for required loads and changes to employee's status.
- Analyze and troubleshoot problems to ensure organizational needs and expectations are met.
- Communicate with agencies and employees in all matter relating to Withholding Orders. Ensure that orders are set up correctly in compliance with the order and remitted to the appropriate agencies and that electronic files received are accurate.
- Create adjustments in Workday for benefits, taxes and compensation as requested.
- Create and Submit labor reports to the US, NY and NJ Dept of Labor.
- Ensure that daily and biweekly audit reports have been generated in Workday.
- Review overnight processes have run successfully and reports have been generated in Workday.
- Act as liaison with Chase bank to troubleshoot employee ACH and check issues.
- Assist MSK Time Analysts when troubleshooting MSK Time issues.
- Prepare documentation requested by internal and external auditors and MSK Legal Dept., requiring understanding of Workday functionality. External auditors include accounting firms, the IRS, various state agencies and Workers Compensation auditors.
- Build and maintain spreadsheets and metrics for the department detailing results of processes.
Qualifications - you have:
- 2-4 years payroll experience.
- Knowledge of Payroll standard methodology, applicable payroll tax and benefit related laws and regulations.
- Adherence to internal controls and maintains confidentiality.
- Extremely organized with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal skills, able to communicate effectively.
- Self-starter and able to manage their workload independently.
