Perform a variety of routine and complex technica l tasks in theperformance of laboratory tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosisand treatment of disease. Job duties are dependent on the laboratoryand may be composed of a combination of the following duties a ndresponsibilities related to the specialization. Tasks are performeda ccording to written procedures and policies with careful monitoring ofqu ality control and quality assurance practices.
Work Performed
Perform a variety of tests in clinical laboratories using stand ardtechniques and equipment; perform related duties in the laboratory to include specimen handling, using manual and automatic equipment to tests pecimens, and perform and report analytical tests.Operate manual or comp uterized instrumentation. Calibrate and maintaininstrumentation accordin g to standard operating procedures.Process patient samples for testing u sing appropriate identificationtechniques and written procedures to ensu re quality material fortesting.Perform basic troubleshooting of assay pr oblems as directed by seniorstaff. Communicate problems/issues to approp riate individuals.Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.Participa te in the development of new medical laboratory tests andtechniques.Part icipate in the preparation for lab inspections. Review labinspection doc uments and procedures to maintain knowledge. Bring anynon-compliance iss ues to the attention of upper level staff.Perform proficiency testing as directed to maintain compliance withregulatory agencies.Document qualit y control and quality assurance results. Notify upperlevel personnel of instrument malfunctions or unusual or unexpected dataor results.Review w ritten procedures and policies for accuracy and submit changesto manager or designee.Understand, comply, and perform with all necessary safety p rocedures.Maintain compliance with safety training. Report all safety in cidentswithin 24 hours.Attend all laboratory meetings, safety and compliance training asrequired.Comply with competency testing procedures for t he laboratory staff.Train new staff. Serve as a resource person/role mod el, as perguidelines determined by laboratory management. Comply with la boratorytraining programs.Provide technical guidance and instruction to students, interns,residents, staff and other employees. Perform other re lated dutiesincidental to the work described herein.Use behaviors that s upport achievement of balanced scorecard targets andsupport DUHS values.Consistently cooperate and communicate effectivelywith co-workers to en sure effective workflow.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelors of Science/Bachelor of Arts in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science; or Medical Technology. Generalist certification required for General labs. Generalist/Specialty certification required for specialty labs. Minimum educational or experience requirements may be modified on a case by case basis at the discretion of the CLIA director as long as minimal CLIA requirements are met by the employee for the tasks beingperformed.
Experience
Two years experience as a certified MLS.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Generalist/Specialty Certification by a nationally recognized board/agency (required). Certification will vary depending on laboratory. Advanced degree (MS or higher) accepted in lieu of certification.
